Positive Revolution

NEW!

2010 ~ Runtime: 78 min.
There’s a revolution underway in South America, but most of the world doesn’t even know it. Director Oliver Stone sets out on a road trip across five countries to explore the social and political movements as well as the mainstream media’s misperception of South America while interviewing seven of its elected presidents. In casual conversations with Presidents Hugo Chavez (Venezuela), Evo Morales (Bolivia), Lula da Silva (Brazil), Cristina Kirchner (Argentina), as well as her husband and ex-President Nestor Kirchner, Fernando Lugo (Paraguay), Rafael Correa (Ecuador), and Raul Castro (Cuba), Stone gains unprecedented access and sheds new light upon the exciting transformations in the region. According to Owen Gleiberman of EW.com, it’s "An eye-opening documentary [that] captures South America in a paradigm shift, wrenching itself free of centuries of colonial control."

Thrive is a new film that explores how corporations are gaining more and more control over us in their quest for global domination. Here’s what one Amazon.com film reviewer had to say about THRIVE: "Producer/director/host Foster Gamble [explores] the suppression of Tesla’s free-energy discoveries; the harassment, ruin, and even murder of inventors working in this area in ways that threaten Big Oil; the patient but inexorable reorganization of the world’s nation-states into fewer and fewer continental ‘unions’ (for easier conquest and control ...); the clockwork prosperity/depression cycles that permit bankers to scoop up the world’s assets at fire sale values time and again; the puppet-string manipulation of both American political parties so that those in real control can never lose an election. All of it is covered here in this riveting film. ... In the film’s view, humanity is at a critical crossroads and the choices are enslavement or waking up."

Venezuela: Revolution From the Inside Out, is a voyage into Latin America's most exciting experiment of the new milennium, exploring the history and the projects of the Bolivarian Revolution through interviews with a range of its participants, from academics to farm workers and those living in the margins of Caracas. This introduction to the 'revolucion bonita' ('pretty revolution') offers in-depth interviews, unforgettable images and a lively soundtrack that will open new vistas onto this hopeful human project. As he totes his camera on bus and car trips all over Venezuela, director Clifton Ross becomes our tourguide through the Bolivarian Revolution. He sweeps us through its history and takes us to its works-in-progress on the ground. These schools, rural lending banks and cooperatives weave the fabric of Venezuela's "Socialism of the 21st Century." They show its failures and successes, its warp and woof. Through it all runs the frayed but unbreakable thread of a people in struggle.

The Take

In the wake of Argentina's spectacular economic collapse, Latin America's most prosperous middle class finds itself in a ghost town of abandoned factories and mass unemployment. Thirty unemployed auto-parts workers walk into their idle factory in Buenos Aires, roll out sleeping masts and refuse to leave. All they want to do is restart the silent machines. But the simple act has the power to turn the globalization debate on its head. Respected journalist Avi Lewis and renowned author Naomi Klein (No Logo) take viewers inside the lives of the workers and their families, who must fight for jobs and their dignity by confronting factory owners, politicians and judges. The result is a real life political thriller that pits ordinary workers against the local ruling elite and the powerful forces of global capitalism.

Shot on the frontlines of struggles spanning five continents - The Fourth World War is the untold human story of men and women who resist being annihilated in the current global conflict. While our airwaves are crowded with talk of a new world war, narrated by Generals and filmed from the noses of bombs, the human face of war is rarely seen. This film weaves together the images and voices of the war on the ground - from the frontlines of struggles in Mexico, Argentina, South Africa, Palestine, Korea, 'The North' from Seattle to Genova and the "War on Terror" in New York and Iraq.

A Force More Powerful

This is an awesome 6-part documentary on one of the 20th century's most important and least-known stories - how non-violent power overcame oppression and authoritarian rule. In South Africa in 1907, Mahatma Gandhi led Indian immigrants in an nonviolent fight for rights denied them by white rulers. The power that Gandhi pioneered has been used by underdogs on every continent and in every decade of the 20th century, to fight for their rights and freedom. Reviewing a century often called the most violent in history, this series is the story of millions who chose to battle the forces of brutality with nonviolent weapons - and won. This 2 DVD set includes six good historical examples of how nonviolent power can overcome authoritarian rule. Using the power of nonviolence, pioneered by Mahatma Gandhi, those oppressed were able to gain back their right and freedoms.

  1. In the 1960's, black college students were able to desegregate Nashville's downtown lunch counters in five months.

  2. In India, in the 1930s and 1940s, Gandhi used civil disobedience and boycotts to break free of British rule, and become independent on August 15th, 1947.

  3. In 1985, a young South African named Mikhuseli Jack led a successful campaign against Apartheid.

  4. In April of 1940, Danish resistors undermined Nazi Germany's objectives using sabotage and strikes

  5. In 1980, Lech Walesa, a human rights activist, led a successful strike demanding independent unions in Communist Poland.

  6. In 1983, Chilean workers used non-violent protests successfully against military dictator Gen. Augusto Pinochet.

"This series is the story of millions who chose to battle the forces of brutality with nonviolent weapons - and won."
